Discipline and Obedience
Discipline yields what?
BQ: If you have kids, you probably know that most of the time being disciplined isn't something they enjoy.
Q: What does the Bible say about discipline and what it yields?
A: Heb 12:11, "All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness." Pro 12:1, 13:1, 15:5
Psa 50:17 says. "“For you hate discipline, And you cast My words behind you." Like the young ruler who left Jesus sadly (Mt 19) when he realized that following Him meant giving up the world, we have a tendency as God's spiritual kids to "run away from home," casting God's words behind us instead of toughing up and growing spiritually. The world of the Kingdom: which are you of?

Love and Discipline
BQ: Should we love God or should we fear him? Children both love and fear their parents. A child's father protects him, loves him, and disciplines him to ensure his survival.
Q: What does perfect love do? Should we fear God? What is the beginning of wisdom?
A: 1 Jn 4:18, THEN
Mt 10:28, Heb 10:27-31 and 11:7, THEN
Pro 8:13, Pro 9:10, Psa 111:10
"The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person." (Eccl 12:13)

Obedience not required?
BQ: A popular online religious website says that it doesn't recommend another ministry because, " it [says the Bible] requires obedience to keep one's self saved." Elsewhere they state that obedience is never required.*
Q:Does God ever mention obedience being important?
A: 1 Peter 1:22 starts off by saying, "Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth..."
"through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations | Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?" (Romans 1:5; 6:16)
So we see that obedience is involved in purifying our souls, that it is a demonstration of faith, and that the opposite of it is sin, which leads to death, but having it leads to righteousness. Wow, this is DEFINITELY important! Even if a religious organization is huge and allegedly "scholarly," we need to fact-check them against God's word. It takes some Olympic-level mental gymnastics to deny that obedience is critical.
